LAZY MONDAYS
9.05.2005
5:53 PM
Today was a really boring day.
I sat in my dorm all day and studied.
No phone calls or anything. Just stepped outside once because someone pulled the fire alarm this morning while I was sleeping.
I think EVK food is starting to get to my stomach too.
Now I know why Garfield hates mondays.
MY SASSY GIRL
9.04.2005
2:12 PM
This post is for Lauren, Lawrence, Nelson, and countless others who keep mentioning this...
During this weekend, I've had some time (not the entire weekend fortunately) to sit in my dorm by myself. So, I decided to watch a movie, and now I can officially say that I have watched My Sassy Girl.
Pretty entertaining movie...better than most romantic comedies that the US is currently making. I just want to say I sure hope I don't meet my girlfriend passed out on mass transit.
Give me a call or something tomorrow if you're not busy. I have no immediate plans right now. Everyone in my hall is gone somewhere.
God is good.
I
xtracker - ahaha, i know who you are that read my xanga!
pray for new orleans.
CONCERT
8.31.2005
1:12 PM
Oh wow, my first "big event" opportunity living down here in L.A.
Multi-platinum recording artists Good Charlotte and 17-year-old pop sensation Rihanna will join Maroon 5 and Kanye West for a free concert at the site of the NFL’s first Super Bowl—the Los Angeles Coliseum—as part of NFL Opening Kickoff presented by Sprint on Thursday, Sept. 8.
(from NFL.com)
Sorry guys! I haven't heard music from any of these artists, just heard of them, so you'll have to tell me whether or not it's good. But L.A. Coliseum...wow...just literally across the street from the USC campus. I'll probably end up checking it out after class next week.
THE ROAD THUS FAR

Wow, I didn't realize USC was so dead on weekends
So anyways, first week of classes...hmm...it's been quite an adventure. For this post, my inspiration will be Robbie's post-first week post and my cousin's cousin's over/under-rated college list.
1.) The campus - To start out, I think everyone know something about USC, and if you don't, then you can check out the website and learn stuff and spy on Tommy Trojan, etc.
2.) The room - At first I thought North was the perfect dorm at USC, until I arrived at...my room! It's 3rd from the end of the hall, the end that faces the street, the street being Figueroa St., the street which not only holds the ONGOING CONSTRUCTION of our awesome new Galen Center arena, but also a FIRE STATION as well as it being one of the main thoroughfares into downtown LA. That means peace and quiet is impossible. Oh yeah, and try closing the windows and the room turns into a sauna, it's that bad. It's good in a sense that the construction becomes an alarm clock, but on a day like today, drove me nuts. Otherwise, the room is spacious, containing a microfridge, large furniture, a TV (compliments of roommate). My wall is partially decorated with cardinal and gold, as well as a montage of CBM camp pictures (see below). Oh yeah, my bed is made everyday and my desk is reasonably clean...so far.
2.) Food - I seemed to be okay avoiding the freshman 15, but then I realized that it's probably not going to be the meal plans that kill me, esp. since I eat relatively healthy every day. It's really the extra food you get when hanging out with friends, and the snacks that get you. One word when you're in LA: Pink's. EVK food, known to many as the EVil Kitchen, isn't inedible as some people claim. It's far from being "really good food", but it does the trick of satisfying your hunger. Just have some antiacids handy just in case. Megan says it's so much better than when she ate there, so I guess I don't really want to know how bad it was. Eat the salad and you'll be fine. Forget exercise at USC too, because Lyon center is always crowded. Just walk across campus to class like me and you'll be fine!
3.) High speed internet - it's a fast, T1 connection, but it's hard to find a site with enough upstream to take full advantage of it.
4.) Alcohol/ getting drunk - hasn't happened to me, but I guarantee you you'll experience the effects of it through someone. No need to go to the frats, just sit outside your hallway during the first night. If you're lucky like me, your roommate will have frat parties in his agenda already.
5.) Staying up late - haven't done too much of that. I usually get to sleep no later than midnight Sun-Thurs nights because of a 9:00 class. Doesn't help much, but it's healthy. Most of my hall seems to be out partying the night away somewhere off campus during the later hours anyways.
6.) Classes - I actually like my schedule. M/W I have three classes starting at 9 that go until 1, then a class at 3. T/TH I have 2 classes starting at 9:30 that go till 12. Thursday I also have a freshman engineering class which is a really easy class. Friday I have class at 9, then a class at 12, and that's it. Going to class feels sort've like high school, except on a much larger scale. Try to avoid foreign-educated teachers because of their difficult accent (esp. French or Russian) and try to avoid classes all the way across campus (both of which I could not avoid). Oh yeah, and your freshman english/writing class is going to be a killer. I guarantee it.
7.) Friends - I haven't found any really close friends, but being one who can be somewhat shy, I found that the best way is to just meet people. The best way to do that is through different campus events, especially fellowships. In the first week, I've attended church, where I met AACF guys, AGO (a Christian frat), Intervarsity Trojan Christian Fellowship (TCF), and then Bread of Life's college fellowship. Though I might only be actively attending half of the listed clubs, this was the best way for meet to meet people, some which may become lifelong friends. Make the effort to meet people and the Lord will provide you with the close friends..
8.) Faith - Even in the midst of all the temptation that I face here, I found it's been a little easier to have my quiet times. I think it's because I am now the keeper of my own time. I can wake up early (my choice or not), roommate's asleep, and I look into the Word and dedicate the day to the Lord. Maybe the Lord is heightening my spiritual defenses because of the increased "attacks", but in any case, it's been a blessing.
Oh yes, find a church and find a fellowship. Both very important!
Not sure who this post is really directed towards, but I was completely bored today. Miss you all! Keep up the letters! (count thus far: 3, one home care package and two textbooks
)
A NICE TOUCH...

I finally got my 30 free camp pictures from snapfish and tacked them up on my wall (oh yes, my bed is made too). But it seems to be lacking something...hmm... interior designers! interior decorators! anyone who loves to decorate! What do you think my partially-decorated dorm wall needs?
